Custom House, Brisbane, Wedding:
I have been wanting to photograph a Brisbane city wedding for a while and I recently got that chance with Simon & Kathleen who were married at Customs House in Brisbane. Built during the colonial times, it sits proudly on Brisbane river and is somewhat of an icon of the central business district. With its Corinthian columns and long boardroom it makes a very grand statement for a wedding.
Kathleen is originally from Canada although has made Brisbane her home with Simon and their 4 year old twin sons. So full of charm and charisma those boys were, happy to pose for all of 20 seconds for family photos before running onto the next thing 🙂 They each wore matching ties and socks with cute little Velcro sneakers, I knew I had to get a photo of those! They also designed the ring boxes for Mum & Dad!
Kathleen & Simon had always planned to get married later in the year however with Kathleen’s parents visiting from Canada they decided to bring it forwards and organise it in ultra quick time! They did an amazing job with attention to the little details including a game for guests to play and those cake toppers!! Having spent a few hours with their boys, I can honestly say that those cake toppers sum them up perfectly 🙂
I was only with Kathleen & Simon for a short part of their day however we managed to discover an almost secret garden nestled in between the business district and Brisbane river’s boardwalk. Perfect for quick family photos en route to customs house.
Their wedding was lovely. Overlooking story bridge, they made their vows to each other, the sun set and the bridge glowed. I knew that I had to try and get some shots of their rings with the lights of the bridge in the background. Luckily, I had been practising with off-camera flash and was able to rest the camera on the table and hold the flash in my left hand. Phew! So pleased with the shots I got of the ring!
